Why would a loving God send good people to Hell?
Why do people often assume that they are good and ignore the true character of God and what He considers as good?
Question 1 : Is God 's character only loving or is their other aspects or qualities to His nature?
You absolutely don't need to believe me. Lets see what the Bible says about God's character and attributes.
This is not an exhaustive list of God's character attributes.
1) God is holy
No one else is holy like He is (1Samuel2:2)
His holy presence rejects impurity (Isaiah 6:3-5)
Without holiness no one shall see God (Hebrews 12:14)
2) God is righteous
He rules out of righteousness (Psalms 97:2)
He delights in demonstrating righteousness (Jeremiah 9:24)
in the end, the righteous judge will judge righteously (2Timothy 4:8)
3) God is omnipotent, omniscient, omniscient
God has power to create anything from nothing (Psalms 33:6-9)
God determines the course of world events (Daniel 2:21)
God is everywhere and know one can escape Him (Psalms 139:7-12)
4) God is just
He exercises justice towards all humanity (Genesis 18:25)
God is just in all His ways (Deuteronomy 32:4)
God rightly judges the heart, mind and deeds (Jeremiah 17:10)
The righteous God justifies those who believe in Jesus (Romans 3:25-26)
5) God is faithful
God is faithful to fulfill His promises (Hebrews 10:23)
His faithfulness endures (Psalms 119:90)
His faithfulness is immeasurable(Psalms 36:5)
6) God is absolute truth
God's words are faithful and true (Revelations 21:5, 22:6)
God's truth is everlasting (Psalms 117:2)
His Spirit guides believers into all truth (John 16:13)
7) God is Love
His eternal plans are motivated by His love (Ephesians 1:4-5)
God loved the world enough to send His son to die (John 3:16-21)
God is love (1 John 4:7-8)
To love your enemies and the wicked is to be like God (Luke 6:35)
Most folks claim the promises of heaven and say that God is love.
Why not be honest with ourselves and discover also the promises of Hell and the rest of God's character attributes.
Promises of Hell :
1) As for the cowardly, faithless, detestable, as for murders, the sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, all liars, their portion shall be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death. (Revelations 21:8)
2) Then He will say to those on His left, "Depart from me you cursed, into eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels." (Matthew 25:41)
3) And in Hades being in torment, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham far off and Lazarus at his side (Luke 1)6:23
4) And he called out, "Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus to dip the end of his finger in water and cool my tongue, for I am in anguish in this flame." (Luke 16:24)
5) And many of those that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt. (Daniel 12:2)
6) He rains down fire and burning sulfur upon wicked people. (Psalms 11:6)
7) They will be tormented with burning sulfur in the presence of the holy angels and the Lamb. And the smoke of their torment shall rise forever and ever. They will have no rest day or night.... (Revelation 14:11)
8) Maggots are spread out beneath you and worms cover you. (Isaiah 14:11)
9) The worm feasts on them; the wicked are no longer remembered (Job 24:20)
10) They will suffer the punishment of eternal destruction, away from the Lord and the glory of His might. (2 Thessalonians 1:9)
Again we are only scratching the surface on scriptural references of the promises of Hell in the bible.
Question 2: If I am wrong about my personal goodness in Gods view, then what must I do to change and gain His approval?
1) Understand that your personal estimate of "good" is wrong according to the Bible
- "All of us have become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous acts are as
filthy rags" (Isaiah 64:6)
- " None is righteous, no, not one;
no one understands;
no one seeks for God.
All have turned aside; together they have become worthless;
no one does good;
no not one." (Romans 3: 10-12) (Psalms 14:1-3)
2) Humble yourselves and turn away from the worldly lifestyles of sinning.
- He called a little child to stand among them and said, " Truly I tell you, Unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore whoever takes the lowly position of this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven." (Matthew 18:2-4)
